2004-06-13 In Need of Grace - Page 3 of 3
And, if we did that, I think there might be some extraordinary responses. We might find Jesus in
a lot more places than we do now, and when we do, we might see him - just the way he promised we
would, in all kinds of places - in prisons, in hospitals, homeless shelters, and food banks and soup
kitchens, just to mention a few.
And - like the unnamed woman in the gospel - we might be so overcome with gratitude for his
love and forgiveness that we would go bathe the feet of those in prison. Or go and beg forgiveness of
the naked and the hungry whom we clothe with our castoffs and feed with the food we don’t want to
eat ourselves. Or anoint the heads of those we’ve cast off into the hiding places we call hospitals and
nursing homes. And no one would ever know our names, either.”
But God would.
