And that’s what it church is really about - coming together, gathering in a huddle so to speak,
but that’s not all. Yes, I’m up here today, preaching, and there will most likely be someone up here
preaching every week. But the real witnessing happens when you leave here. It’s your job - not to get
up and preach or to go out on the street corner or even door to door in your neighborhood - but to
come here, week after week, to worship God, to hear God’s word, to bring offerings to God.
And it doesn’t end there. Then you go out, in the power of the Holy Spirit, and you do speak,
and your speaking is as powerful as - and more powerful than - anything I or any preacher can say.
Sometimes you speak in words about your faith, but more you speak in how you live your lives, how
you spend your time and money and use your talents, the decisions you make, the lives you touch, in the
name of Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Not everyone can hear you - really hear you - your message, your lives, are counter-cultural -
but still you speak, and that is the miracle of God’s Spirit working in you. That is God’s power, God’s
gift to God’s people. Amen.
